I write literary fiction about identity, agency, belonging, and the fragile boundaries between the lives we choose and the forces that choose for us.
The novel I am currently writing is a story of possession, love, and agency. Moving between New York and the ancient landscapes of Indonesia, it follows Lara as an old presence begins to exert itself over her choices – and discovers that the human bond it intends to exploit may be more fragile, and more powerful, than it understands.
Fieldwork completed in Central Java grounds the novel in the physical and spiritual character of the landscapes where its central ritual unfolds.
Alongside the novel, I write short fiction, essays, and poetry — smaller structures for the same questions of interiority, moral ambiguity, memory, transformation, impermanence, technology, and place.
